Network Upgrade (NU)

A coordinated, scheduled protocol change to the Zcash network, numbered sequentially since NU5 (NU5, NU6...).

Zcash evolves through a sequence of network upgrades (NUs) — coordinated changes to the protocol that all nodes and miners must adopt at a set block height. Early upgrades (Overwinter, Sapling, Blossom, Heartwood, Canopy) used codenames; starting with NU5, which introduced Orchard, upgrades switched to sequential numbers instead. A pending upgrade, NU7, would change block timing and re-denominate the block subsidy — but as of today it hasn't activated yet.
