Common questions
Is Zcash mining still profitable?
It depends entirely on your hardware, electricity price, ZEC's market price, and current network difficulty — all four move independently. Use the calculator above with your own electricity rate rather than relying on a single published number, which would already be stale by the time you read it.
How is the Zcash mining reward calculated?
Miners don't receive the full block subsidy. Since the NU6 upgrade (ZIP 1015), miners receive 80% of each block's 1.5625 ZEC subsidy — the remaining 20% funds Zcash Community Grants. This calculator's ZEC/day estimate already accounts for that 80% share, not the full subsidy.
What is Equihash?
Equihash is Zcash's Proof-of-Work algorithm — a memory-hard puzzle, unlike Bitcoin's SHA-256. Zcash uses the Equihash(200,9) parameter set, and that's what every ASIC miner listed above is built for. See our full explainer for more.
How is the network hashrate estimated?
We derive it from Zcash's own current network difficulty (read directly from a live node, never estimated ourselves) using a formula verified against Zcash's actual mainnet consensus parameters — it reflects the network's difficulty-implied capacity, not a live poll of every miner, so treat it as a close estimate rather than an exact figure.
Why isn't there a live hardware price?
ASIC prices vary heavily by seller, region and market conditions — publishing a maintained "current price" would create false precision. Enter what you'd actually pay for a break-even estimate specific to you.
