Zcash Wallets

There's no single "best" Zcash wallet — the right one depends on how much you're holding, whether you need shielded (private) transactions, and how much control you want over your own keys. Here's how to evaluate your options.

Top picks

Three Zcash wallets worth starting with

Picked for shipping real shielded support, not just transparent addresses. Checked against official sources as of 2026-09-17 — wallets change fast, so verify current status before moving large amounts.

01

Zodl(formerly Zashi)

Zcash-native wallet, shielded by default

  • Built by the team behind Electric Coin Company's original Zashi wallet
  • Shielded transactions are the default, not an opt-in toggle
  • Built-in private swaps (via NEAR Intents) to move funds in or out without a centralized exchange
  • Pairs with the Keystone hardware wallet for air-gapped shielded signing

02

Cake Wallet

Multi-coin wallet (Monero, Bitcoin & more) with shielded ZEC

  • Added full shielded Zcash support in January 2026
  • Autoshielding by default — incoming ZEC moves into the shielded pool automatically
  • Rotates transparent receiving addresses automatically for extra privacy
  • Convenient if you already hold Monero, Bitcoin or other coins Cake supports

03

Keystone

First hardware wallet with shielded ZEC support

  • Air-gapped signing via QR codes — private keys never touch an internet-connected device
  • Signs shielded transactions in partnership with Zodl, which handles the proof generation
  • Worth the step up once your holdings justify dedicated hardware security

Wallet types

Which category fits you?

Mobile wallets

Everyday spending and receiving on the go

Easiest to set up and use. Look specifically for shielded (z-address) or Unified Address support — not every mobile wallet has it.

Desktop wallets

Larger balances with more control than mobile

More screen space to verify addresses and transaction details before sending. Still connected to the internet, so not ideal for very large long-term holdings.

Hardware wallets

Securing significant amounts long-term

Private keys stay on a dedicated offline device. Historically, hardware wallet support for Zcash has focused on transparent addresses — confirm shielded support before assuming it's available on a given device.

Full-node wallets

Maximum trust-minimization and privacy

You run your own copy of the Zcash chain instead of asking a third-party server for your balance. Requires more disk space and a longer initial sync.

Before you pick a wallet

  • Does it support shielded (z-) addresses, or only transparent (t-) addresses?
  • Does it support Unified Addresses (a single address that bundles transparent and shielded receivers)?
  • Do you hold the seed phrase yourself, or does a third party control it?
  • Is the wallet's source code open and actively maintained?
  • Is it downloaded only from an official source — official site, verified app store listing, or official GitHub releases?

Why shielded support is the deciding factor

If privacy is the reason you're using Zcash at all, a transparent-only wallet defeats the purpose — it behaves just like a Bitcoin-style wallet, with every balance and transaction publicly visible. Full shielded support means the wallet can generate a shielded or Unified Address, receive shielded funds, and spend them, using zero-knowledge proofs to keep the sender, receiver and amount private.
