Sapling
A 2018 Zcash network upgrade that made shielded transactions dramatically faster and cheaper to compute.
Sapling was a major Zcash network upgrade activated in October 2018. It re-engineered the shielded transaction cryptography to cut proof generation time from minutes to seconds and reduce memory requirements enormously — making shielded transactions practical on mobile phones for the first time.
Sapling addresses (starting with "zs1") were the standard shielded address format until the Orchard upgrade introduced Unified Addresses.
