Shielded Address (z-address)

A shielded address (in the current Unified Address format, starting with "u1", or historically "zs1" for Sapling) encrypts the details of any transaction sent to or from it. The Zcash network still verifies the transaction is valid using zk-SNARKs, but the sender, receiver and amount stay private.

Not every Zcash wallet supports generating and spending from shielded addresses — this is the key feature to check for if privacy is the reason you're using Zcash.
