Shielded Address (z-address)

A Zcash address that uses zero-knowledge proofs to keep the sender, receiver and amount private.

A shielded address (in the current Orchard format, starting with "u1" as part of a Unified Address, or historically "zs1" for Sapling) encrypts the details of any transaction sent to or from it. The Zcash network still verifies the transaction is valid using zk-SNARKs, but the sender, receiver and amount stay private.

Not every Zcash wallet supports generating and spending from shielded addresses — this is the key feature to check for if privacy is the reason you're using Zcash.
