ZIP (Zcash Improvement Proposal)
A public, numbered document that proposes or specifies a change to Zcash's protocol, a process, or a funding rule — the project's equivalent of Bitcoin's BIPs.
A ZIP is how Zcash changes are written down and discussed in the open. Each one has a number, a category (for example Consensus, Process or Informational) and a status that tracks where it is in the ZIP process — Draft, Proposed, Final, Active and so on.
A ZIP's status is a document status, not a verdict on whether anything has shipped. Some ZIPs still read "Proposed" even though the behavior they describe was deployed through a network upgrade, and a ZIP only changes what the network does when node software implementing it is released and adopted. The ZIPs are published at zips.z.cash.
