Ledger Removing Legacy Zcash App on November 5; Users Should Migrate Funds

Ledger is discontinuing its old Zondax-built Zcash Shielded app on November 5 and replacing it with a new native Zcash app. Users must move funds before the deadline because the two apps use different account derivation paths, making funds harder to access under the new setup.

Ledger Removing Legacy Zcash App on November 5; Users Should Migrate Funds

Ledger is removing the legacy Zcash Shielded app, built by Zondax, from Ledger Wallet effective November 5. Users currently holding shielded ZEC on the old app should move their funds before that date to maintain straightforward access.

The key issue is a technical incompatibility: the old Zondax app and Ledger's new native Zcash app use different account derivation paths—the mathematical method that generates wallet addresses from a master key. Because of this difference, the new app cannot automatically recognize accounts created under the old one. Ledger recommends transferring legacy shielded balances before the deadline to avoid access complications.

Ledger's new native Zcash app supports shielded ZEC directly, keeps private keys on the device itself, and provides support for Ironwood shielded balances. Users who have already switched to the new app or do not hold funds in the old Zondax app are unaffected.
