What the calculator computes
conventional fee = 5,000 zatoshis × max(2, logical actions). Logical actions are the sum of the transparent part (the larger of input and output counts at standard P2PKH sizes of 150 and 34 bytes), the Sapling part (the larger of spends and outputs), Orchard actions, Ironwood actions and two per Sprout JoinSplit.
- Ironwood actions are counted under ZIP 317 Revision 1, which the ZIP lists as a Draft enacted with the Ironwood upgrade (NU6.3). Revision 0, covering the other pools, is Active.
- Revision 2 (memo bundles) is a draft that depends on a future upgrade and is not included.
- Transparent inputs and outputs are counted as standard P2PKH. Larger scripts, such as multisig inputs, take more bytes and can count as more than one action each.

Questions about Zcash fees
How is a Zcash transaction fee calculated?
ZIP 317 sets the conventional fee to 5,000 zatoshis per logical action, with a minimum of two actions. Logical actions are counted per pool: the larger of transparent inputs and outputs, the larger of Sapling spends and outputs, one per Orchard or Ironwood action, and two per Sprout JoinSplit. The sum is multiplied by the marginal fee.
Why does my wallet charge exactly 0.0001 ZEC?
Most single-recipient payments have two logical actions or fewer, so they pay the two-action minimum: 2 × 5,000 = 10,000 zatoshis, which is 0.0001 ZEC.
How many actions does my transaction have?
Your wallet decides that when it builds the transaction: how many notes or coins it spends, whether it adds change, and which pool it uses. Use the examples above as typical shapes. For an exact count of a transaction that already exists, look up its transaction ID in a block explorer.
Is the fee a consensus rule?
No. ZIP 317 is a wallet standard with matching relay and block-production policies. A transaction that pays less can still be valid, but miners include at most 50 unpaid actions per block and nodes may refuse to relay it.
Does the calculator send my numbers anywhere?
No. The calculation is plain arithmetic in your browser. Nothing is fetched, sent or recorded.
