Zcash Wallet Balance Checker
Paste a Zcash address to check its balance. Transparent addresses have a public balance that we read from the blockchain. Shielded and Unified addresses keep their balance private, so instead of a number you get a clear explanation of how the owner can see it.
Which Zcash balances are public
| Prefix | Type | Balance |
|---|---|---|
| t1, t3 | Transparent | Public balance and history, shown in the Explorer |
| zs1 | Sapling shielded | Private: visible in the wallet or with a viewing key |
| u1 | Unified Address | Private: visible in the wallet or with a viewing key |
| tex1 | Transparent-source-only | Check the underlying t1 address instead |
Not sure which type an address is? The Address Checker tells you without sending it anywhere. For the background, read shielded vs transparent transactions and the Zcash Explorer guide. Wallet showing the wrong balance? See Zcash wallet troubleshooting.
Questions about Zcash balances
How do I check a Zcash wallet balance?
Paste the address above. For a transparent address (t1 or t3) you see its public balance and transaction history in the ZecZcash Explorer. For a shielded (zs1) or Unified (u1) address the balance is private: open the wallet that holds it, or use a viewing key shared by the owner.
Why can't I see the balance of a shielded or Unified address?
Shielded transactions encrypt amounts, senders and recipients on the blockchain. There is no public balance to read, so no explorer or website can show one. This is how Zcash privacy works, not a missing feature.
Is it safe to paste my address here?
An address is a receiving identifier, not a key, so pasting it cannot move funds. Never paste a seed phrase or spending key into any website. The format check runs in your browser; only a transparent address is sent, as the address of the explorer page that shows its public balance.
My wallet shows a different balance than the explorer. Why?
Most modern wallets hold funds in shielded pools, which the explorer cannot see, and show one total across all pools. The explorer only shows what sits on the transparent address you pasted. Unconfirmed transactions can also differ for a few minutes.
Does a Unified Address have a transparent balance I can check?
A Unified Address can contain a transparent receiver, but this tool does not decode Unified Addresses. Your wallet can show the transparent address it uses; that t1 address can be checked here.
