⚡ ZCASH INFRASTRUCTURE GETS A PERFORMANCE PUSH — ZAKURA INTRODUCES “COMMON”
A new performance-focused development is emerging inside the Zcash ecosystem.
Zakura has introduced Common, a collection of cryptographic and protocol libraries designed to make core Zcash operations significantly faster — particularly on resource-constrained devices such as smartphones.
According to benchmarks reported around the release, the improvements include:
• Up to 14× faster proof generation on mobile
• Up to 21× faster Sinsemilla hashing
• Proof-generation workloads reportedly reduced from 3+ seconds to under 200 ms in tested scenarios
• 4–8× faster zk-SNARK verification
Why does this matter?
Zcash privacy relies on sophisticated zero-knowledge cryptography. Making those underlying operations faster and more efficient could translate into better wallet performance, lower computational overhead and a smoother experience for shielded transactions — especially on mobile hardware.
Importantly, this does not mean the Zcash blockchain itself suddenly became “14× faster.” These figures refer to specific cryptographic operations and benchmark scenarios rather than overall network throughput.

Zakura itself is a Rust-based, consensus-compatible Zcash full node forked from Zebra and built with scalability in mind. Its developers already report blockchain synchronization at nearly 5× the speed of Zebra, alongside pruning, fast snapshots and ongoing work on a new P2P architecture.
The bigger picture is becoming increasingly clear:
