Arkham Claims $420 Billion in Zcash Transaction Labels; Privacy Features Remain Intact

Blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence claims to have labeled over $420 billion in Zcash transaction volume and identified more than half of all ZEC transactions.

The figures, originally published in December 2025, have generated discussion about what the labeling means for Zcash's privacy model. According to the @ZecZcash channel, Arkham's tracking of transaction volume does not represent a breach of Zcash's shielded privacy functionality.

Zcash transactions exist in two forms. Transparent transactions operate like Bitcoin transactions—they are publicly traceable on the blockchain. Fully shielded transactions, by contrast, protect the sender, receiver, and transaction amount using zero-knowledge encryption. Labeling public blockchain activity—such as identifying patterns in transparent transactions—does not decrypt or compromise shielded transactions, which remain private.

Arkham's claimed volume represents analysis of transparent transactions, not a compromise of Zcash's privacy-preserving technology. The distinction is material: users who employ Zcash's shielded functionality retain privacy protections regardless of blockchain analytics capabilities directed at transparent activity.
