A major performance upgrade is being proposed for Zcash.

ZIP 218, currently proposed for Network Upgrade 7 (NU7), would reduce Zcash’s target block time from:

⏱ 75 seconds → 25 seconds

What could that mean?

⚡ ~3× faster block production
🚀 Faster first confirmations
📈 Orchard capacity: ~2.9 → ~6.6 TPS
🔒 No change to Zcash’s 21M maximum supply

The proposal is designed to improve transaction latency and network throughput while preserving Zcash’s core privacy architecture.

Important: This is not live yet. ZIP 218 is currently a draft proposal being considered for NU7.
