ZecZcash has published a comprehensive guide addressing one of the most frequently asked questions about Zcash: whether ZEC holders can stake their coins.
The guide confirms that Zcash currently operates as a Proof of Work network and does not support native staking on mainnet. However, it details Crosslink, a proposed hybrid Proof of Work and Proof of Stake model that is currently being tested on a test network. The guide notes that Crosslink is not yet live on Zcash mainnet and has no confirmed mainnet activation date.
The publication covers several related topics: how Crosslink could introduce staking functionality to Zcash, why staking is not currently possible, and alternative methods people currently use to earn yield on ZEC holdings. It also addresses the risks associated with exchange-based "Earn" programs and lending services, compares mining economics with the theoretical staking model, and identifies common staking scams and fraudulent validators to avoid.
The full guide is available on the ZecZcash website.
