On-chain investigator ZachXBT reports that approximately 2,700 ZEC—worth around $3.8 million—linked to the Bitget exploit has begun moving into Zcash's Ironwood shielded pool.
Approximately 18,900 ZEC ($28.3 million) was reportedly stolen from Bitget as part of the September 24 breach. The wider security incident affected approximately $387.5 million across multiple assets and networks. Bitget has said the attack showed indicators consistent with DPRK-linked groups, though attribution remains under investigation.
Moving ZEC from transparent addresses into the shielded pool breaks the publicly visible transaction trail by concealing transaction details on-chain. The shielded pool is a feature of Zcash that allows transactions to be conducted privately, hiding sender, receiver, and transaction amounts from public view—unlike transparent blockchain transactions, which are fully visible on-chain.
The movement demonstrates the real-world privacy properties of Zcash while also surfacing the compliance and tracing questions that strong financial privacy creates.
