Gemini has upgraded its Zcash infrastructure to Zakura in preparation for the NU7 network upgrade, which will reduce Zcash block times from 75 to 25 seconds—roughly tripling the number of blocks produced.
In testing, Zakura reached the chain tip in just over 6 hours, compared with nearly a full day for Zebra, the previous client implementation Gemini used. This performance improvement is significant for infrastructure providers preparing for the faster block cadence that NU7 will introduce.
For Gemini users, the transition is seamless. Deposits and withdrawals continue to operate normally, and no action is required from users. The upgrade represents one of the major infrastructure providers preparing its systems for the network-wide change expected with NU7.
