ZecZcashThe latest NU7 polling results provide a clearer picture of how different parts of the Zcash ecosystem want Network Upgrade 7 to move forward.
Across ZCAP, ZecHub DAO, Zcash Engineering Caucus, Zcash Brasil and coinholders, several strong areas of alignment have emerged:
⚡ FASTER BLOCKS
There is broad support for reducing Zcash’s block target spacing from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. ZCAP voted 70.4% YES.
🌱 SPROUT / v4 DEPRECATION
The groups generally favor disabling legacy v4 transactions with NU7. Among ZCAP members, 48.5% chose immediate deactivation at NU7 activation — the largest option.
🚀 DON’T DELAY NU7
There is also strong support for moving NU7 forward rather than waiting indefinitely for every planned feature. 63.7% of ZCAP voted to ship NU7 as soon as possible and remove features not implemented by the September 30 deadline.
But on ZEC monetary policy, a major divide appears.
🪙 HALVINGS vs. SMOOTH ISSUANCE
ZCAP was almost evenly split:
→ Smooth issuance: 42.2%
→ Preserve halvings: 40.0%
Coinholders, however, delivered a dramatically different signal:
→ 98.9% favored preserving Zcash’s existing halvings.
🔄 NSM REISSUANCE
The divergence continues over when ZEC removed from circulation through the Network Sustainability Mechanism should begin returning through future block rewards.
ZCAP’s largest group — 49.6% — favored starting as soon as possible.
Coinholders overwhelmingly favored waiting until February 2031 — 96.6%.
📊 Around 2.4 million ZEC participated in the coinholder poll, while 135 of 198 ZCAP members participated in the ZCAP vote.
The message from NU7 governance is becoming clearer: there is substantial alignment around technical improvements such as faster blocks and moving NU7 forward — but the future of Zcash’s issuance policy remains far more contested.
