ZCASH NU7 VOTING ENDS TOMORROW — WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Zcash is approaching an important governance deadline.

Voting on the proposed scope of Network Upgrade 7 (NU7) closes on September 14 at 19:00 UTC.

But what exactly is being decided — and who can vote?

WHAT IS BEING VOTED ON?
The process is helping determine which proposed changes should move forward as part of NU7.

Among the major items under consideration are:

⚡ Faster Blocks
Reducing Zcash's target block time from approximately 75 seconds to 25 seconds, enabling faster transaction confirmations.

📉 Issuance Smoothing
Changes intended to make ZEC issuance smoother rather than concentrating issuance into larger periodic events.

⏱ Reissuance Start Date
A governance decision concerning when the proposed reissuance mechanism should begin.

🪦 Sprout Deprecation
Progress toward retiring Zcash's oldest shielded protocol, Sprout.

🔧 NU7 Scope & Readiness
Voters are also weighing which proposed features are sufficiently mature and appropriate for inclusion in NU7.

WHO CAN VOTE?

There are two parallel governance mechanisms:

🪙 Coinholder Voting
ZEC holders can participate through the official coinholder voting process by proving control of ZEC used for the vote.

🏛 ZCAP Voting
Members of the Zcash Community Advisory Panel (ZCAP) participate separately through the Zcash Foundation's governance process.

The two results provide different signals: one from participating ZEC holders and another from an established community advisory body.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Once voting closes, the results will provide an important governance signal regarding the desired scope of NU7.

They do not mean every proposed change automatically activates immediately.

Any changes ultimately included in NU7 still have to go through the necessary specification, development, testing and network-upgrade process before reaching Zcash mainnet.
