More than $19 million worth of assets was converted into ZEC through Aurora Intents during the recent zkSNARKS NFT auction, according to Aurora Labs.
The activity was spread across 1,718 swaps and represented more than half of the roughly $36.94M / 25,305 ZEC submitted to the auction.
Users didn’t need to acquire ZEC beforehand. Assets including USDC, ETH, BTC, SOL and BNB could be routed through the cross-chain system and converted into ZEC.
Aurora says 27% of its routed volume originated from USDC, while another 21% came from native ETH.
The auction received 16,971 bids for 8,000 NFTs, with a final clearing price of 1.5 ZEC.
Importantly, the Zcash side of the bidding process used shielded transactions. That does not make the entire cross-chain route private — activity originating on transparent networks such as Ethereum remains visible on those networks.
For Zcash, the bigger story goes beyond the NFT auction: this was a real-world example of substantial cross-chain liquidity being converted into ZEC and routed into a shielded Zcash application — without requiring every participant to manually acquire ZEC first.
