Zcash mining economics are attracting serious attention.
Will McEvoy, CIO of Cypherpunk Technologies, recently highlighted just how large the gap has become between Zcash mining, Bitcoin mining and AI/HPC infrastructure.
According to McEvoy, former Bitcoin miners that shifted their power infrastructure toward AI and high-performance computing could potentially be generating significantly more revenue today by mining Zcash instead.
His comparison:
⛏ Zcash mining: over $700 per MWh
🤖 AI/HPC: roughly $225 per MWh
₿ Bitcoin mining: roughly $100 per MWh
Recent independent mining estimates support the broader point. At ZEC prices above $1,000, a Bitmain Z15 Pro was estimated to generate around $708 in gross revenue per MWh, although rising network hashrate and difficulty can quickly change mining profitability.
And McEvoy isn't simply commenting from the sidelines.
Cypherpunk recently launched what it describes as the world's largest active Zcash mining fleet, deploying approximately 4.2 GSol/s across the United States — representing around 18% of the Zcash network hashrate at launch.
Cypherpunk's thesis is straightforward:
Zcash mining in 2026 could resemble Bitcoin mining in 2016.
If these economics persist, rising ZEC prices could do more than attract investors.
They could trigger a new wave of mining infrastructure into the Zcash network.
