Zcash holders have delivered a clear signal on the direction of the upcoming NU7 network upgrade.
Nearly 2.4 million ZEC participated in the private coinholder vote — roughly 66% of eligible ZEC at the snapshot.
⚡ 99.9% backed reducing the target block time from 75 to 25 seconds
⛏ 98.9% voted to preserve Zcash’s existing Bitcoin-style halving schedule
📅 96.6% supported delaying NSM reissuance until February 2031
🚀 99.3% backed moving NU7 forward quickly, removing features not implemented by the September 30 deadline
The vote itself also showcased Zcash privacy: holders could vote using shielded ZEC, allowing economic weight to be measured without publicly linking individual balances or identities to votes.
The results don't automatically activate these changes, but they send a strong signal to developers as NU7 moves toward implementation.
