Zcash is approaching an important decision about how new ZEC enters circulation.
As part of the upcoming NU7 upgrade, the Zcash community and coinholders are voting on proposed changes to the network’s issuance schedule — including replacing traditional four-year halvings with a smoother issuance curve.
One thing does not change:
Zcash will retain its maximum supply of 21 million ZEC.
The proposals concern when and how future ZEC is distributed, not the total amount that can ever exist.
The timing is particularly interesting as Zcash continues to attract institutional attention, including through Grayscale’s Zcash investment products.
That creates a compelling long-term dynamic:
21M maximum supply.
Evolving issuance.
Growing institutional exposure.
Community-driven governance.
The NU7 vote closes September 14, 2026 at 19:00 UTC.
