• Shielded transactions could be created in just a few seconds
• Memory requirements were reduced to roughly 40 MB
• Mobile shielded transactions became practical
• The foundation was laid for much broader adoption of Zcash privacy
But there is another fascinating part of the story.
Sapling required a massive cryptographic parameter-generation ceremony. Nearly 200 participants contributed directly or indirectly to the process — helping create the parameters needed for the new shielded system.
Before Sapling, Zcash had already demonstrated that strong financial privacy was possible.
Sapling helped make that privacy usable.
And years later, shielded technology remains at the heart of what makes Zcash fundamentally different from transparent blockchains.
